WILL DONALD TRUMP CONCEDE?

ree

The 2020 United States presidential election was the 59th quadrennial presidential election held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. The election saw a record number of ballots cast early and by mail, due to many states relaxing restrictions on mail-in voting in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the large number of mail-in ballots, some swing states saw delays in vote counting and reporting, leading to major news outlets not projecting a winner until four days later on November 7. Joe Biden was elected president of the US, winning the battleground state of Pennsylvania to reach the 270 votes needed to secure a majority in the electoral college. Donald Trump rejected the outcome, saying his opponent was “rushing to falsely pose as the winner”.

Mr Biden also won Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona, according to race calls by the Associated Press. Mr Trump carried Florida, Texas, Ohio and Iowa. However, Donald Trump has refused to concede to the results. Trump’s refusal to acknowledge his loss in the 2020 election has fed concerns that the presidential transition would be sabotaged, as a Trump appointee refused to sign off on funding for the transition and the Trump campaign announced an expanded legal strategy in a quest to reverse the election result.

The Centre for Presidential Transition, a nonpartisan advisory board, urged the Trump administration on Sunday to begin the handoff to staff supporting Joe Biden, whose victory continued to grow in magnitude as states completed their ballot counts. Kushner, the President’s son-in-law and senior adviser has approached him to concede, two sources told CNN. The first lady, according to a separate source familiar with the conversations, has privately said the time has come for him to accept the election loss. The President, who was at his golf course in Sterling, Virginia, on Saturday when the race was called, has not denied the outcome of the election privately even as he does so publicly, sources told CNN. But he's continuing to push his attorneys to pursue legal challenges that would delay formal certification of the results, and he has made no public indication that he is ready to accept the results of the election.
